Banksy Paintings

The works of Banksy are known the world over due in large part to the high visibility of his distinctive stencil-style graffiti street art. The irony of his popularity is that he has managed to remain completely anonymous and though there is speculation of his true identity, he continues to be shrouded in mystery. His legend continues to grow with his ability to blur the lines between street and popular culture. His satirical artworks, done in secret and usually displayed out in the open for the public, always seem to deliver his signature biting and sometimes humorous commentary of political and social issues. What is amazing still, is that despite his celebrity status he doesn’t seem to seek any sort of fame, profit or notoriety for his works. Banksy may have started out as a vandal of sorts but has really made a name for himself as a bonafide artist, political activist and even an Academy Award nominated director for his documentary film, Exit Through The Gift Shop.
